Salina Regional Health Center welcomes a new cardiovascular surgeon.

According to the hospital, Richard Toon, M.D., is the new chief cardiovascular surgeon. Toon has been on the consulting staff at Salina Regional since 2006 providing locum tenens coverage for the Heart Center while in full-time practice in Wichita.

Toon provides a comprehensive array of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgeries including cardiac bypass and valve replacement surgery, vascular repair and lung and esophageal surgeries. He is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Toon is originally from Iowa where he graduated from medical school at the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his cardiothoracic surgery
training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and his fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.

Toon is currently seeing patients at the Heart Center, 501 S. Santa Fe in Salina.
