Military Exempt From Kansas Vehicle Property Tax

Active military in Kansas are exempt from paying vehicle property taxes.

According to the Saline County Treasurer’s Office, under an amended law in the state of Kansas any full time member of the military service, including full time Kansas Army National Guard, Kansas Air National Guard, or reservist member under the authority of title 10 or title 32 of the U.S. Code will be eligible for an exemption on vehicle property taxes. The military member is eligible for for up to two vehicles.

Full time members who are residents of the state of Kansas that have already paid their vehicle property taxes after December 31, 2013 are also eligible for a refund.

Service members must bring with them either a copy of their Leave and Earnings Statement (L.E.S.) or orders showing either title 10 or 32 active status. Eligible service member must also complete an Active Duty Military Certification affidavit.

Part- time members of the Guard, or those military personnel in training, are not eligible.
