Milestone Year For Community Foundation

In 2014, the Greater Salina Community Foundation hit a major milestone when its assets topped $150 million dollars.   The Foundation has just announced that it has reached another significant milestone in 2015, the awarding of a total of $50 million in grants and scholarships since its inception in 1999.  Both milestones place GSCF at the top when compared to community foundations in Kansas.

Ray Perez, Chairman of the Foundation Board, notes that this is not so much an accomplishment of the Foundation, which serves to manage, invest, and award grants, but rather of the generosity of donors in the Greater Salina and affiliate foundation communities.   “The real heroes of philanthropy in Salina are the donors and those caring professionals and volunteers who operate the many charities that donors send their funds to each year,” according to Perez.

The focus on endowed funds at GSCF will ensure that those charities will continue to receive gifts from donors in perpetuity.   Wayne Lowen, Interim Executive Director of the Foundation, represented the entire staff when he said, “We are extremely proud of our donors  whose extraordinary generosity has made this milestone possible, and look forward to the coming years when their generosity will continue to bless our community and other charities throughout the world.”
