McPherson Sweeps Abilene

The Abilene High School basketball teams were swept Tuesday night in McPherson with the Lady Bullpups winning 55-39 and the Bullpups winning 71-55.
The girls game was never close as Abilene trailed 27-5 after one, 42-16 at halftime, 50-30 after three. Abilene outscored McPherson in the second half: 23-13. The Cowgirls were led by Hannah Willey who finished with 9 points; the Lady Bullpups were led by Taylor Robertson who poured in 23 points. With the loss, Abilene dropped to 3-1 on the season and will travel to Concordia Friday for both teams’ final games before holiday break. The Lady Panthers defeated Marysville 64-51 Tuesday and are undefeated on the season. McPherson improved to 3-1 and will travel to Winfield Friday.
In the boys game, McPherson pulled away in the second half for the victory. McPherson led 18-17 after one, it was tied at 36 at halftime, and the Bullpups led 54-48 going into the final quarter. McPherson forced 19 Abilene turnovers with 11 coming in the second half and won the game at the foul line as the Bullpups converted on 24-34 free throws. Abilene was led in scoring by Ryan Wilson who finished with 17 points. McPherson was led by Ben Pyle who totaled 23 points. The Cowboys take on (2-2) Concordia next; the Panthers fell at Marysville 61-44 Tuesday night.
