A man who shot and killed himself Sunday evening near a North Salina intersection as Salina Police were approaching was being sought for alleged crimes against a woman.

Police Monday identified the man as 26-year-old Jose Robles. He had been sought since late last week.

Late Wednesday Robles allegedly hit his girlfriend in the head multiple times with a handgun. He then forced her into his vehicle and drove her to multiple locations.

While the woman was held captive, Robles repeatedly threatened to kill her. The woman was able to escape from the vehicle and contact police. She was treated and released from Salina Regional Health Center.

Acting on a tip, officers were headed to the area in an attempt to make contact with Robles. An officer saw him in an alley, and began to approach.

Roble saw the officer, and ducked down behind some bushes in a backyard. A single gunshot was heard, and Robles was found on the ground, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Robles was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say that officers did not fire any shots in the incident. Only one shot was fired, a self-inflected shot by Robles.
