Large Grass Fire At Fort Riley

A fire at Fort Riley fueled by strong winds burned 2,500 acres of grass but caused no structural damage or injuries.

Fort spokesman Steve Elstrom says the blaze started about 2 p.m. Tuesday during a military training exercise on the northwest side of the fort.

Firefighters from Fort Riley and Riley County fought the blaze on both sides of U.S. 77, with the majority on the east side but including an area approaching the Military Marina.
