It’s a sign of the season. The Salina Salvation Army Kettle Campaign begins Friday.

Red kettles and bell ringers will be stationed at about 15 locations around Salina this year. The Kettle Campaign is the organization’s single largest fundraiser. It funds local Salvation Army programs throughout the year.

According to the organization, volunteer bell ringers are still needed. Volunteers can sign up for as little as one hour. To volunteer, contact Roxanne Matous at the Salina Salvation Army

Volunteers from Salina Media Group radio stations KSAL and Y 93.7 will be ringing bells on Saturday, December 7th.

This used to be a sincere deal when Salavation personel manned the kettles dressed in their uniforms. Any more one can look at this as panhandling at best. One never see’s the top people of the local Salavation Army manning these kettles. If it were so important you think they would be out there from time to time at all locations. Sorry but with the county, city raising taxes and our health insurance going through the roof and the economy in the toilet the average Joe just does not have the money. Now the school district wants millions more when they still have not paid off the last bond issue they still have some years on. Evidently all these people with their hands out forget for most of us our immediate families come first.
