KDOT installs solar lights in SE Kan.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Transportation and Pittsburg State University are teaming up to install solar powered pavement lights at two intersections in southeast Kansas.

KOAM reportsĀ  the lights are part of a pilot program. KDOT says the 600 solar powered LED pavement lights will glow white or yellow, helping drivers tell the difference between two interchanges. KDOT says neither interchange where the lights are being installed meets standards for tower lights.

Chris Pross of the Kansas Department of Transportation says the project costs around $100,000 and is expected to be finished in about two weeks.

The partnership with PSU gives students and faulty the chance to be a part of new research.
