Officials hearing arguments from people who don’t want a proposed power line to go through their backyards are seeking to bring order to legal proceedings.

The Grain Belt Express line would span part of Kansas and send 600,000 volts of electricity from wind farms to Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.  The Kansas Corporation Commission already has found the project to be in the public interest. Hearings underway now are focused on the location of the transmission line.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the Kansas Corporation Commission considered petitions from seven groups or individuals at its meeting Tuesday. The KCC decided that people seeking to speak at an October hearing must have a specific interest that is affected by the case and clarify what they want the agency to do.
