UPDATE: Kansas Wesleyan Investigating Threat

The Salina Police Department is working closely with officials at Kansas Wesleyan University after a recent phone call to administrators was made in regard to a situation involving a student athlete.

“There was a relative who did call Kansas Wesleyan – and made a vague statement that could be interpreted as a threat,” said Police Captain Mike Sweeney.

Officials say that the campus at KWU is safe as they investigate the incident. Captain Sweeney spoke to media members on Thursday and said police are following up on the case, “We’re working closely with Kansas Wesleyan to make sure the school is safe,” he said.

The school sent out a message to students and staff on Wednesday.

In the message, they say that the school received a verbal threat by an out-of-state, non-student. The threat is related to a specific incident and is not racially motivated.

The statement concluded that the campus community is safe, and “Our security personnel are fully aware of the situation. As always, if you see or hear anything suspicious, please contact security at (785) 452-2517, (785) 376-1861 or call 911.”
