Kansas House of Representatives: Gerrett Morris
KSAL Staff - September 22, 2016 8:41 am
Office: Kansas House of Representatives District 69
Candidate: Gerrett Morris
Bio: Gerrett Morris’ family has lived in Saline County for five generations. His ancestors were farmers, and his parents still operate a small farm just outside of Assaria. His father, now retired from the US Air Force, currently works in a factory. His mother owned her own retail business for several years and now works for the Postal Service.
After his father retired in 1989, the family moved just outside of Assaria, where Gerrett helped out around the farm, learning firsthand about responsibility and the value of hard work. He graduated from Southeast of Saline High School and Cloud County Community College with an Associates Degree in Horticulture. Currently he is the Landscape Supervisor at Rolling Hills Zoo, where he has been employed for 18 years, and serves nationally as a board member of the Association of Zoological Horticulture. He and his wife, Ann Marie, have two wonderful children.
Candidate Statement: I have lived in the 69th district for 16 years, and I care about our community. I have in the past served on the Salina Area Vo-Tech horticulture advisory board, 4-H Program Development Committee, the Salina Tree Advisory Board, and Falun Lutheran Church Council. I am a founding member and co-owner of Ad Astra Books and Coffeehouse.
I am especially concerned by how our community is affected by what happens in Topeka. The state’s budget is a critical issue, threatening everything from our schools and highways to economic development. We need to change the course we’re on to ensure Kansas has well-educated kids, a robust workforce, and healthy economic development. There are going to be some tough decisions to be made in Topeka the next few years, and I want to be there to promote and protect the interests of the 69th District.
