Kansas Boy Dies from Crash that Killed His Mother, Sister

Associated Press - November 17, 2016 12:05 pm

Authorities say four people died after a semi collided with a minivan in western Kansas while trying to pass another truck.

A 6-year-old Kansas boy has died from injuries sustained in a suspected drunken-driving crash that killed his mother and younger sister.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the boy as Jaydon Allan Thompson, of Junction City, who died at a hospital.

Kansas Highway Trooper Ben Gardner says 26-year-old Jessica Michelle Thompson had taken Jaydon and 5-year-old Leah Michelle Thompson out of school Tuesday morning for a medical appointment. They were returning when a Houston man driving a large box truck crossed the median on Interstate 70 and crashed into the family’s vehicle in Geary County.

The truck’s driver is jailed in Geary County on $250,000 bond on suspicion of two counts of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence and two other counts. No formal charges were immediately filed.

What a tragedy. Another irresponsible drunk takes a young mothers life and her two very young children. And what is the drunk driver going to be put thru? Suspended license for a year, maybe 5 years in prison. Then gets out and drinks and drives again. This is pathetic. They should get the same sentence as if they murdered the whole family. Life in prison without the chance for parole. See this is what these idiots dont understand. The possibility of what COULD happen when they get drunk and drive. They just go thru life drinking and driving not thinking about the repercussions of their actions until something like this happens. Some take action and start going to AA and receiving treatment but most go thru life still drinking and driving taking the chance of killing or injuring others and destroying property or others property which if often the case. These weak willed people need to held fully accountable for their actions. And if they cant handle the booze have enough will power not to touch it.
