Lawrence police are investigating after an injured infant was found abandoned in the trash.

Police said in a release that the infant was found Thursday morning in the trash receptacle at an apartment complex. Police said the infant had injuries that were “possibly life-threatening” and had been taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police did not provide a gender or approximate age of the infant.

Police said they’re investigating, but no additional information is available.
