Hunter shoots rare elk in Lyon County

Hunter Brenda Doudican had to do a double take this month when she saw a bull elk wandering through a Lyon County clearing with deer.

The Emporia Gazette reported that the spotting led Doudican to obtain a permit on Dec. 12 to hunt elk, which are unusual in the area. She didn’t catch a glimpse of the elk that night, but the next morning she got a clear shot. She then completed the paperwork needed to have the animal processed. Doudican says she’s “still kind of in awe.”

Doudican began hunting with muzzle loader season. She continued with bow season and then followed with rifle season. She says she spent a great deal of time waiting and now feels it was worth it.

Someone should hunt her down and shoot her. Oh I am sorry they do not give permits to shoot people who are stupid. Why is the state even issuing permits to hunt elk in Kansas. Kansas hunting laws need to be changed as many including letting people hunt in populated area’s is going to cause problems down the road.

While he may have been a majestic animal, he’s still dinner. Hunt the woman down and shoot her? Really? For putting food on her table? She didn’t shoot without looking like some morons do. She didn’t shoot at some noise in the bushes. She shot an Elk! Very low in fat, completely organic, big enough to feed a family for most of a year, has no growth hormones, and delicious! Congratulations Brenda Doudican and if you don’t want the liver, send it my way!

Why did she have to go out and kill an animal to get meat. Why not just go and get some at the grocery store where they don’t have to kill animals to get meat. You people are morons!!

Does the meat at grocery store come from somewhere new now??? And who is the moron??

My comment is what they call “sarcasm” sorry you didn’t get it! It was directed towards the people who think we should not be able to shoot these MAJESTIC animals in the POPULATED areas of Kansas. This is a wild animal, and shed didn’t shoot in town? Where do these people thing meat comes from?
