Hunter Sentenced To Probation

A Texas man has been sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to violating a federal law protecting birds while he was in Kansas.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 52-year-old George Morgan of Gordonville, Texas, pleaded guilty Monday to violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. He was also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and $3,000 in restitution to the state of Kansas.

Morgan is the last of eight hunters to plead guilty after a meetup in Graham County for a dove hunt in September 2013. They also were sentenced to probation and ordered to pay fines.

The federal law classifies mourning doves as migratory game birds.
