Huelskamp Elected to House Committee

A Kansas Congressman who lost seats on two House committees three years ago has been elected to a Republican committee.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp, a western Kansas conservative, was elected Thursday to the Republican Steering Committee, which fills committee assignments. Huelskamp was elected to one of the committee’s at-large positions, six seats created recently by current House Speaker Paul Ryan.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the committee is chaired by the speaker and is traditionally made up of establishment figures.

Huelskamp, who was elected to his first term in 2010, lost his seats on the House Budget Committee and Agriculture Committee in 2012 under former Speaker John Boehner.

Huelskamp also says he hopes to return to the Agriculture Committee in a year.
