Kansas House Fire Victim Gets Some Unexpected Relief

Just when she needed it most, a northwest Kansas woman who lost her home to a fire won the lottery prize of her dreams: a VIP race weekend at Kansas Speedway.

KAYS-AM reports Shelly Anderson’s two-story home near Plainville burned down earlier this week. Anderson and her son escaped through a second-floor window, but her boyfriend suffered multiple fractures getting out another window.

On Friday, Anderson learned she had won a VIP Racing Experience prize package in a Kansas Lottery drawing. It includes lodging, food and two tickets to the ARCA and NASCAR races Oct. 4-6 at the track in Kansas City, Kan.

Anderson and her boyfriend are enthusiastic NASCAR fans.

They’re also getting ample help in Plainville, where residents are putting on a benefit dinner for them Saturday night.
