Heavy Rain Prompts More Flooding

KSAL Staff - August 4, 2013 10:09 am

Heavy rain late Saturday night into Sunday prompts more flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, among the wettest areas is Reno County, where over 7 inches of rain fell in some areas. In Hutchinson, where nearly 5 inches of rain fell within 90 minutes, major flooding was occurring.  A nursing home was evacuated as stalled cars floated in flooded intersections.

In Barton County over 4.5 inches of rain fell in some areas. Sunday morning the City of Ellinwood was filling sandbags for citizens to use to help hold back water. Highway 56 was covered in water in some areas, and there were numerous reports is stalled vehicles. Flooding was also occurring in the City of Great Bend.

Sunday morning multiple roads were impassable in portions of Ellsworth, Barton, Reno, and Rice Counties. Flood warnings were in effect for multiple counties as well.

In portions of Saline County there were reports of over 2 inches of rain falling.

Officials stress to not drive through, and to instead “turn around and don’t drown”.
