Health Department’s Name Officially Changed

Saline County Commissioners accepted a $1,030 grant for the Saline County health Department, and also officially change the agency’s name on Tuesday.

Commissioners voted 3 – 0 to accept a Family Planning Grant. The funding will be used to purchase select birth control pills. Commissioner John Price voiced concerns about the possibility of pills that could be used a a “morning after”, or used to terminate a potential pregnancy, being purchased. Commissioners will have the chance, though, to approve or deny any purchases. Because of this they unanimously approved the grant.

The commission also officially changed the name of the health department. Effective January 1st, the department became a county agency, and was no longer jointly funded by the City of Salina. Executive Director Bronson Farmer said that there is still a little confusion, saying that the agency is still referred to as the “Salina / Saline County Health Department” in some paperwork and documentation. The action Tuesday to officially change the name to “Saline County Health Department” was an effort to help clear up any confusion.
