Hackers Target School Computers

Three Topeka area school districts say their computer systems have been attacked recently.

The Capital-Journal reports officials with Topeka USD 501 said Friday no data has been compromised in the attacks on that district. Superintendent Julie Ford says it’s an ongoing investigation, and the district is working with federal and state authorities.

Shawnee Heights Superintendent Marty Stessman says that district fended off repeated attacks this past spring. He says the attack blocked the district’s Internet access on four or five occasions, lasting most of the school day. Stessman says the FBI investigated and no data was compromised.

Jeff Zehnder, communications director for Seaman USD 345, says his district has been experiencing some attacks for a few months, but that no data has been compromised.
