Go Behind the Badge

Time is running out to apply for an 11-week course that gives citizens an inside look at law enforcement.

“I’d like to have 25 people sign up for the Citizens Academy, that’s my goal,” said Salina Police Sergeant Brent Rupert.

“We’re taking applications up to this Friday and then starting August 16th.”

Rupert joined in on the KSAL Morning News with a look at the classes which are a joint effort between the Salina Police Department and Saline County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sgt Rupert, participants will have a chance to get a behind the scenes look at multiple facets of police work that include; a K-9 Demonstration, D.U.I Recognition, Dispatch, SWAT Demonstration, Crime Scene Exercise, Use of Force and Judgement Simulator plus Ride Along Opportunities.

Classes meet Tuesday evenings and the course runs from August 16, through October 25.

Questions can be directed to to Sgt. Brent Rupert at SPD by calling 785-826-7210 or by calling Lt. Sean Kochanowski at the Saline County Sheriff’s Office at 785-826-6500.
