Saline firefighters rescued a girl who fell down a steep, rocky river embankment late Thursday afternoon.
Battalion Chief David Turner told KSAL News at the scene that a juvenile female was walking along the top of the embankment in the Indian Rock Park area, above the Smoky Hill River, when she lost her footing and fell down the embankment. The girl was injured in the fall, and could not walk.
Firefighters responded, and performed what Turner called “a low angle rope rescue.” Essentially they sent down a stretcher, attached ropes to it, and pulled the victim up.
Turner said that the department periodically practices technical rescues like this. Though not in the exact location where the fall happened, they practice in the Indian Rock Park Area.
The victim was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center to be treated for a possible broken leg.
