Fort Riley Welcomes Battle Of the Bulge Vets
KSAL Staff - May 11, 2014 7:30 am
Maj. Gen. Paul Funk II on Thursday gave command of the 1st Infantry Division to Maj. Gen. Wayne Grigsby Jr. during a change-of-command ceremony.
Fort Riley is preparing to welcome a contingent of veterans from World War II’s famed Battle of the Bulge. The veterans will take a tour on Wednesday.
The Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944 was the costliest single
battle for the Allies in World War II. It was Germany’s final desperate
attempt to turn the tide of war in its favor following the DDay Invasion
the previous June.
As time goes on fewer of these brave American veterans will be with us.
The visit will feature a welcome from garrison commander Col. Andrew
Cole, a trip to the battle simulators, lunch in the dining facility, and
a visit to the post museums.
