Fort Riley Announces Ceremony for Gen. Martin

Fort Riley is planning a change-of-command ceremony as a new leader takes over for one who was fired last month.

The Manhattan Mercury reports that Maj. Gen. Joseph Martin officially will take charge of the Big Red One at the Oct. 18 event on post. The Army announced Martin as the commanding general at Fort Riley last week. He most recently commanded the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California.

He replaces Maj. Gen. Wayne Grigsby, who is the subject of an Army investigation and was removed from command for what the Army cited as a loss of confidence in his ability to lead. No details have been released about the investigation.

The ceremony also will mark the upcoming deployment of soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division to Iraq.
