Flower Pro Ready for Big Day

Valentine’s Day is Friday and Wayne DeBey, owner of the Flower Nook in Salina says he’s ready to help create that loving feeling.

DeBey stopped by the KSAL Morning News Tuesday and says estimating is part of stocking up the flower cooler, “Traditionally you look at previous year’s records then make a good guess,” he said.

Ooh Factor

“The day of the week that it falls on affects the amount of business too,” DeBey says. “Wednesday is the best day for the ‘Ooh Factor’ and Friday’s not bad.”

DeBey explains part of the fun of sending flowers to your sweetheart is the ripple effect around the office, “If we deliver flowers at work and the coworkers all say ‘Ooh look what he sent you,’ that’s a big part of it.”

DeBey says they hire extra staff on Valentine’s Day so floral designers can concentrate on their craft, while support staff can help with sales and delivery.

DeBey also sounded the call for buying at local floral shops. “I looked at 9 listings in the Yellow Page ads of what I classify as order gatherers. They have no brick and mortar – no ability to produce anything here in Salina.” DeBey says consumers will save by visiting local shops.
