First Female Scout Executive To Begin

A new leader is set to take over the Salina based Coronado Area Council Boy Scout Organization, and for the first time it will be a woman.

According to the organization, Wendy A. Shaw is the new Scout Executive/Chief Executive Officer of the council.

Shaw began her scouting career at Pikes Peak Council in Colorado Springs s District Executive. She was promoted within the same council serving as Senior District Executive, District Director, Field Director and on to Assistant Scout Executive.

Shaw was promoted to serve as Director of Field Service with the Three Fires Council in St. Charles, Illinois.

Shaw received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and a Masters in Public Administration from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.

Shaw is taking over a large scouting organization. The Coronado Area Council serves over 3,700 young people across 32 counties in North Central and Northwest Kansas. More than 1,500 adult volunteers provide character education, personal fitness, and leadership skill-development programs to youth in each local community.

The Council operates two camp facilities. Brown Memorial Camp is located near Abilene and the Dane G. Hansen Scout Reservation is located near Kirwin.

The Coronado Area Council has its headquarters in Salina, with a satellite office in Manhattan.

Shaw will join the Council in Salina on February 18th. Shaw will be one of only a handful of female Scout Executives in the country.
