Fireworks Spark 32 Citations in Salina

Salina Police credit a stepped up effort to remind the public about fireworks safety and restrictions as a key in an overall safe holiday weekend.

According to Captain Chis Trocheck, police received 201 calls to complain about fireworks being discharged between June 27th and July 4th.

“There were some citations issued this year,” Trocheck said.

“I think the public service announcements helped and the public is becoming more aware of what the restrictions are,” he said.

Salina Police officers wrote 28 citations while members of the Salina Fire Department handed out 4 citations for misuse of fireworks.

Police report Saline County Fire crews responded to 2 grass fires while Salina Fire Department crews responded to 5 small fires in connection to the discharge of fireworks.
