Fire Damages Downtown Loft

Firefighters were on the scene of a working fire in Downtown Salina Tuesday evening.

Crews were called at around 9:45 to the report of smoke coming from the area of Laura’s Antiques at 109 S. Santa Fe. No flames were visible from the outside, but a working fire was discovered on the second floor above the store.

Salina Fire Marshal Roger Williams told KSAL News at the scene that the fire started on the back side of the building, in the patio area of a loft apartment.

Surrounding buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading. Williams says that a sprinkler system activated, and helped to keep it from spreading.

Fire damage was limited to the loft area. Williams said that smoke filled the antique store, and a bar next door, That 1 Bar. There was also possibly water damage in the antique store.

A one block section of Santa Fe, between Iron and Walnut, was closed as crews worked the scene.

There were no injuries.
