Father, Son Threatened with Speargun

A long running dispute that boiled over in a Salina front yard leads to an arrest.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that officers were called to the 200 block of S. 11th Street around 10pm on July 12th after 19-year-old Tanner Wheeler allegedly pointed a speargun at a teenage male.

Police say an ongoing dispute between Wheeler and Dane Welch turned violent when Wheeler stopped his vehicle in front of the victim’s house and pointed an underwater speargun at Welch.

Moments later Dane’s father, 38-year-old Jeremy Welch came outside and was threatened by Wheeler as well.

Police arrested Wheeler on July 17th on multiple charges that include two counts of aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon.

No one was injured in the incident.
