Farmer Follows Suspect

KSAL Staff - April 4, 2016 11:25 am

A Saline County farmer followed a suspect 7-miles into town Saturday evening before the thief abandoned his truck and ran away.

Saline County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 36-year-old Caleb White on Sunday after he walked into police headquarters to report his truck stolen.

White is accused of loading up his pickup with $1,000 worth of items from a property at 4288 E. Mariposa Road and driving away. Saline County Undersheriff Captain Roger Soldan tells KSAL News that’s when 81-year-old Richard Hahn took action – by following White as he drove back into Salina.

White finally abandoned his truck on a front yard at 166 Overhill.

A trail-cam photo of White on the rural property aided in his arrest.

Deputies say he allegedly took a clothes dryer, heater, floor jack and miscellaneous power tools and loaded them into his 1992 Ford F150.

He’s now facing charges that could include burglary, criminal trespass and theft.
