Event For Salina Child Battling Cancer

Family and friends are coming together this weekend to help a Salina child who is battling cancer.

Oscar Campa is a 7th grade student at Salina South Middle School. He was diagnosed with Stage Three Osteosarcoma in the fall of 2013.

Earlier this month Oscar underwent an extensive surgery to have his left arm removed as part of his fight to beat his cancer. He started chemo shortly after.

All of this makes the holidays especially difficult financially and emotionally for Oscar and his family.

Friends have planned a “Mega Limo and Lights Tour” fundraiser for Oscar for this Sunday. The event is being organized by Mega Limo owners Darin Lee and Gina Applegate Lee.

The event, which features limousine Christmas light tours around Salina, will originate from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Sunday evening.

There will be cookies and hot drinks in the parish hall for participants who want to socialize while they wait. Keli Hodges is taking photos for a small fee to raise money for “Team O”, a group formed by  friends who are rallying around Oscar and his fight.

Terry Ferguson will be playing holiday bagpipe music. Kelly Kitchener will have “Team O” scarves for sale as well to benefit Oscar’s cause.

Tours in the limo begin with Oscar’s family riding first at St. Elizabeth’s at 5:30. All of the remaining tours will depart every half hour until the last group leaves the church at 9:00. A Suggested donation is $10 minimum per person. You can pay by cash or check at the event.

You can also make mail donations to Mega Limo, 2351 Huntington Rd., Salina, KS 67401. The limo seats 10. You can call Mega Limo at 785-404-6342 to book group reservations and save a time slot. An advance RSVP is recommended.
