Electrical Problem Prompts Exide To Temporarily Close

KSAL Staff - August 18, 2013 2:28 pm

Battery maker Exide Technologies is seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as it attempts to restructure its U.S. business.

One of Salina’s largest employers is temporarily closed to begin the week.

Officials from Exide Technologies tell KSAL News that the plant is closed on Sunday, and it could possibly be closed again Monday.

An electrical problem prompted the closure. Officials anticipate business as usual once the problem is fixed.

Exide employees are asked to contact their supervisor before reporting to work on Monday.

Exide is one of the largest employers in Salina. With operations in more than 80 countries the company is one of the world’s largest producers and recyclers of leadā€acid batteries.
