Studen Of the Week

Mrs. Sheila Shaffer

She teaches Chemistry & Earth/Space Science and has taught a total of 11 years; all at CHS. She has been molded and inspired by teachers. She comes from a long line of educators and she is extremely proud to carry on the tradition. Central holds a special place to her as an alumni and as a child, growing up in the building while her mother Terry taught in the 80’s and 90’s. Mrs. Shaffer loves birds and two of her favorite teaching techniques involve birds. She wishes to tell us, “Be involved and encourage the students’ of this community toward high achievement and hard work. Together, we can make Salina better.”

Mrs. Susan Montoy

She teaches business, video editing, graphic design, web page design and computer classes and has taught a total of 31 years. She chose teaching because fell in love with computers. Her inspiration was her son, Billy. Mrs. Montoy enjoys the interaction with the students and knowing that the skills she is teaching them will be useful in their professional as well as personal lives. She wishes to tell us, “Find out what kids are doing in the schools!! Good things are happening every day! To quote my dear friend, Loren Banninger, "It's a great day to be a Cougar!"”

Mrs. Gina Lee

She teaches Art and Special Education Art at South Middle School and has taught a total of 27 years; 25 at SMS. Her granddad and father were both teachers and she admired the love they had for their students and chosen careers. South Middle is like a huge extended family where staff, students, and parents care about one another and work towards success. She sees the kids’ kindness for others and they have incredible goals that inspire me daily. She wishes to tell parents, guardians and the community, “Give children opportunities to explore and create because these will develop distinguished individuals who strive for excellence, not just the norm.”

Jayson Emig

He teaches 8th grade history and has taught for a total of 14 years; 3rd at Lakewood. He had several good teachers and coaches growing up and he wanted to make the same difference in kids’ lives they made in his. He looks forward to seeing his students every day. It’s fun to work with the different personalities that each class brings. Mr. Emig enjoys Lakewood because of the administration, teamwork, and the overall building. He wishes to tell us, “We can’t put a value on the importance of being involved in our students’ lives.”
