Drug Charges

A traffic stop leads to drug charges for two Salina men.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that an officer on patrol saw a license tag light out on a 2007 Pontiac G6 and stopped the car at the corner of 9th and Claflin just after midnight on Friday.

The officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and a search revealed two bags of marijuana hidden under the passenger seat and another tucked away in the center console.

Police arrested 33-year-old Mauricio C. Simmons and 28-year-old Thomas A. Berry on charges of possession.

Berry was also charged with intent to sell an illegal drug.

Police report that the three packages of marijuana weighed over 76 gross grams in combined weight.
