Drug Charges Put Three Behind Bars

A routine traffic stop puts three men behind bars on Saturday.

At 1228am officers stopped the passengers of a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu in the 200 block of West Crawford for committing a traffic violation on South Ninth Street. The officer noticed movement from within the vehicle, raising suspicion as he approached.

After making contact with the driver, Scott Foth, 31, of Abilene, the suspects were ordered out of the vehicle while a search of the car was conducted. The search would find a black semi-automatic 9mm gun under the rear seat of the car where Jonathan Mangold, 26, of Council Grove was sitting. He was also found having a loaded handgun magazine under his left leg.

Also found in the search was Foth’s wallet, which contained 3.9 grams of methamphetamine and also several containers potpourri in the center console of the car as well as digital scales with white residue and a marijuana pipe.

The front passenger, Bryan Sumpter, 38, of Salina was accused of possessing a black container with methamphetamine crystals and a glass pipe.

Foth and Sumpter face possession charges of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia while Mangold faces felony firearm possession and marijuana possession charges.
