Driver Falls Asleep And Crashes Near Salina

A drowsy driver falls asleep and crashes near Salina late Sunday night.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 24-year-old Maria Chavez of Salina was driving a station wagon north on Interstate 135 when she fell asleep. The car veered across the passing lane into the median, and then veered back into the passing lane. The car then veered again into the median, crossed both southbound lanes, and rolled several times. It came to a stop in the ditch.

Chavez and three children ages 6, 4, and 1 were transported to Salina Regional Health Center with possible injuries.

Troopers say everyone was buckled up.

The crash happened at around 9:30 Sunday night 1.2 miles south of the Mentor exit.
