Driver Arrested After Chase, Crash

A Salina man was arrested following a short high speed pursuit, and a crash, early Tuesday morning.

According to Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney, at 2:00 in the morning an officer on patrol observed an unbuckled driver and attempted a traffic stop on a 1996 white Honda Civic on South 10th Street, in the area of Prescott Street.

The car did not stop. It went west on Precott, and then north on Phillips at a high rate of speed.

Because of the speed, police discontinued the chase.

Officers discovered the Honda a short time later, crashed into a parked car and disabled, in front of a home at 110 North Phillips. The driver was located on foot in the area, and arrested. He has been identified as 24-year-old Jose Perez.

Perez could face charges that include fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and being a habitual violator.

Perez was not injured in the crash.
