Dickinson County Town Disbanding Police Department

A Dickinson County Community is getting rid of its police department. The Enterprise City Council voted this week to discontinue its small police department, and instead contract with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement. The department consisted of an interim chief and two officers.

Enterprise Mayor Larry Jantz tells KSAL News that final details are still being worked out.

Enterprise is a community of 950, located east of Abilene, 3 miles south of Interstate 70 on Kansas Highway 43. Enterprise is the home of the first public school kindergarten in the state of Kansas. In January of 1901 Enterprise was visited by female temperance leader Carry Nation when she smashed a local saloon.

Enterprise joins other Dickinson County communities including the city of Solomon and the city of Hope in contracting with the sheriff’s office for law enforcement.
