Daylight Business Burglary

A Salina man is arrested after breaking into a sand company’s lock box.

Wednesday morning at about 11:30am, Saline County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Alsop Sand on Water Well Road after a man stopped in and said he wanted some asphalt shavings loaded into his truck.

The employee left the office area to operate the loader and waited for the customer to swing by for his order.

Deputies say 36-year-old Jack Urbanek stayed in the office and cut the lock off a money box and stole $371 in cash, before telling the employee his truck was not working and he did not want the shavings.

The employee then found the broken box and contacted authorities.

Urbanek was found a short time later and was arrested on charges that include burglary, theft and damage to property.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski tells KSAL News that Urbanek was also in possession of stolen property linked to a theft case in Ottawa County.
