Volunteers are needed to help for a day of service in Salina next weekend. They will install or check on smoke detectors, clean the banks of the Smoky Hill River, and work to beautify Downtown Salina.
Nancy Klostermeyer with the Volunteer Connection tells KSAL News that teams of three people will help install up to 800 new smoke detectors during the ‘Good Deeds in Salina,’ planned for Saturday, September 12th.
“There will be a brief training program for those who are going to be on the smoke detector teams,” Klostermeyer said.
“One will install the smoke detector, while another will develop a fire escape plan with the residents.”
Klostermeyer added the third team member will record the number of smoke detectors installed at the home. Hundreds of worn out batteries will also be replaced during the program.
Volunteers are also needed the same day for cleanup on the banks of the Smoky Hill River, adding plants and landscaping to a one-block area along North Santa Fe and repair of a couple of brick sidewalks.
The day begins at 8am next Saturday, September 12th, with a pancake breakfast at the University United Methodist Church, 1509 S. Santa Fe Ave.
Klostermeyer says those interested in lending a hand can call the Volunteer Connection at 785-823-3128 or visit their website at www.volunteerncks.org
