Crash Near Salina Involving SUV / Mower

KSAL StaffAugust 13, 2015

A Lawrence woman was hurt in a crash involving an SUV and a Kansas Department of Transportation mower on Interstate 70 near Salina Thursday afternoon.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a KDOT New Holland mower crossed from the median to the right shoulder. The mower was completely on the right shoulder of the roadway.

A 2007 Ford Escape driven by 61-year-old Amy Hanson from Lawrence swerved to avoid slowed traffic in the right lane, entered the right shoulder, and struck the mower. The SUV rolled, and came to rest on the right shoulder.

Hanson, who was buckled up, was hurt. She was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center. The driver of the mower, 61-year-old Jose Maldonado from Salina, was not hurt. He also was buckled up.

The crash happened at 1:00 Thursday afternoon, just east of the Ohio Street exit on I-70.
