Citizen’s Academy Celebrates Grads

After 11 weeks of hands on training, twenty-six area citizens completed their Citizen’s Academy course on Tuesday evening at the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.

For the first time in eight years, citizens interested in learning more about law enforcement were able to attend the training which had been parked since 2007.

According to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, the course covered numerous demonstrations and areas of interest including: accident scene simulation, DUI investigation, fingerprinting, court system, K9 unit, use of force simulation and a trip to the shooting range.

Salina Police officers and Sheriff’s Deputies teamed up to make the course available again.

Sheriff Kochanowski tells KSAL News he hopes the Citizen’s Academy can continue with the next class offered in the summer of 2015.
