Church Burglar Arrested

Salina Police make an arrest and recover a stolen safe after a traffic stop.

According to Captain Mike Sweeney, an officer on patrol stopped a car driven by 31-year-old Justin Rortina of Salina, at Ohio and Pacific on Thursday night for a broken headlight.

The officer recognized Rortina as a suspect in the Ray Avenue Baptist Church burglary from late January.

Police used a search warrant and found a stolen safe with historic church paperwork at his home at 2013 E. Gray.

Police say Rortina is now facing burglary and theft charges plus forgery for endorsing a $15 check stolen from church.
