Church Audit Leads to Arrest

A former treasurer at a Salina church turns himself in to face charges of embezzlement.

Terry James Geer, 39 of Salina walked into police headquarters on Wednesday, about a month after a warrant was issued for his arrest regarding theft from a church.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that leaders from the Episcopal Church on Max Avenue contacted police after an internal audit revealed a pattern of theft.

Police allege that between May of 2013 and June of 2014, Geer made 53 unauthorized transactions at area restaurants and convenience stores for a total of $1,287.21.

The audit also showed that Geer had used the card forty-five times to obtain cash with a money gram transaction totalling over $6,350.

A police investigation led to a warrant requested on December 7, 2014.

Geer is now facing multiple charges including criminal use of a financial card.
