UPDATE: Parent Miscommunication Prompts Abduction Report

KSAL Staff - September 11, 2013 8:20 am

Miscommunication between two parents leads to a scramble Wednesday morning to find a child who was reported abducted.

Law enforcement was searching for a child who was reported abducted from Solomon Elementary School. The abductor was believed to be the second grade student’s mother.

After an attempt to locate was sent out, a Salina Police Officer located the suspect vehicle headed west on Interstate 70. The officer stopped the vehicle at the Flying J truck stop at Ohio and Interstate 70.

Dickinson County Sheriff Gareth Hoffman tells KSAL News that the case turned out to be the result of poor communication between the child’s mother and father. He says that no charges will be filed.

Number one the Abilene police did all the work all salina pd did was stop the car big deal. Once again a couple of parents without any responsibility. To report the child to be aducted is a false report as all schools do not release children to just anyone. Sounds like a divorce situation.

Not all divorced parents are hateful and fight. If this would have been a situation where a grandparent picked up the child would it be irresponsibility or a poor communication? Such negativity in our world. There is enough going on we can pick apart and judge that we are losing sight of when a mistake is simply a mistake. This can be looked at as a practice run and yes I am aware it does cost money, but if there is one incident such as this that was a false alarm and it prepared law enforcement for an unfortunate situation in the future so be it.

Hey Linda get a grip of yourself and quit protecting these irresponsible people. I would say 85% of divorce people do not get along but why should others bear the expense and time involved when it comes to something like this. Evidently you do not have kids in school and you are unaware of the procedures to remove a child.

Looks like there’s actually people in this world that think they’ve NEVER made a mistake. NOT! My children grew up in the Salinas schools and I know very well what the policy to remove a child is and I know very well that they don’t check ID’s or watch every vehicle a child gets into. Going into the office they may ask a question but don’t neccissarily check ID’s. It’s possible this was when kids were getting out of school and they do not watch what car a child gets into. Miscommunication happens. I got along fine with my ex and I know others that have also. Most don’t – true. And that’s unfortuneate when you have children involved. Just be glad they found the child and it was actually mistaken communication. Glad a child wasn’t abducted!!

Quite the contrary Red Neck I do not feel I am protecting irresponsible people. I am simply saying not everyone is irresponsible and mistakes happen. I do know a little about the system as I worked in it for quite some time. I worked with KCSL as well as scheduled Community Service projects for Offenders. I also worked as a Family Consultant for Head Start and am well aware of procedures for releasing a child and to whom. You missed my point. I was saying not everyone is irresponsible and mistakes happen and we need to have the facts before we judge. If 85% of divorced parents do not get along does that mean we should lump the 15% in with them that do get along or get the facts. I don’t like to pay unnecessary fees any more than you do but it is the judging and negativity that was getting to me. If this was a case of being hateful and violating rules then I think the parent that did it should be assessed the fees it cost, but that won’t happen, Kind of like the restitution ordered to pay me for my purse being stolen and a house break in. Didn’t happen and it did no good to raise hell with the PO. Lack of responsibility but not everyone is irresponsible
