Car Chase Ends in Chain Link Fence

A Salina man wanted on an Ottawa County warrant is arrested after a short car and foot chase.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that just before noon on Thursday an officer on patrol attempted to stop a car with an expired tag driven by 41-year-old Joel Ginther.

Police say Ginther sped up in his 1998 Chevy Lumina in the 1300 block of Crawford and led officers on a pursuit that reached speeds of 50 mph in residential areas of Duvall, Broadway and Haven, ultimately slamming into a couple of chain link fences in the 1000 block of Franklin.

Officers then took Ginther into custody as he tried to scale the chain link to escape.

Damage to fencing owned by a mini storage business and Hawk Vending on Franklin is estimated at $1,300.

A female acquaintance in her mid-teens was a passenger in the vehicle, did not try to run and was not hurt in the incident.

Ginther is now facing multiple charges that include reckless driving, flee and elude, criminal damage to property and possession of marijuana.
