Car Accident Causes Damage to Unharvested Wheat Field

A vehicle traveling northbound on I-135 lost a wheel, which started a small fire that damaged a nearby wheat field.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office and Fire District #6 were called to a small fire burning in a field near Assaria and milepost 84 on Wednesday.

Brian Cedeno, 28, Wichita, was driving a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan when one of the wheels on the vehicle fell off in to the ditch.

The heat from the wheel started a fire that spread to a nearby property owned by Clayton Short.

The fire destroyed three acres of unharvested wheat.

The total loss to the wheat field was at $800.
