Cannonball Prompts Business Evacuation

The discovery of a cannonball prompted the evacuation of a Salina business Monday afternoon.

Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that at 1:39 in the afternoon dispatch received a call that a cannonball was discovered in a box of items being donated to the DAV Thrift Store at 901 West Crawford. It was on a back counter inside the store.

As a precaution the store was evacuated, and the bomb disposal unit from Fort Riley was contacted. The unit responded and took possession for disposal of what turned out to be an eight pound cannonball.

The store was closed for several hours during the incident.

There were no injuries.
