Bullet Misses Woman in Bed

Shots fired from a high-powered rifle narrowly miss a woman asleep in bed.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that officers were called to 500 West Beloit Thursday night just after 11:30pm – after someone fired at least five shots that hit a house.

One of the rounds went through a wall and then the mattress where a 73-year old woman was sleeping. “It traveled all the way through the bed and out the front of the house and ended up on the front porch,” Sweeney said.

Captain Sweeney added the woman was very lucky not to be injured.

“It narrowly missed her, so she was pretty fortunate that she was not struck with this round.”

Police say two other bullets hit some trees, while a 5th bullet hit another residence at 501 W. Beloit and lodged in a closet. No one was injured.

The investigation is still ongoing – and one man was arrested in the area who was found with methanphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his pockets last night.

Police say 52-year-old Lee R. McCray told officers he heard the shots and dove down near his house at 1012 Pershing.

His right index finger was bleeding and officers found two baggies on him that had a meth residue inside.
