A skid steer loader is lost in a fire.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office reports a 2014 John Deere skid steer was consumed by fire on Thursday afternoon.

Deputies say Daniel Lewick was pushing logs into a pile north of Salina in a field near the intersection of N. Girard and Shipton Road, when he heard a loud pop.

He turned to see the skid steer’s engine on fire and called 9-11.

Fire District #7 responded to the blaze that destroyed the newly purchased machine that only had 50-hours of operation on it. There were no injuries.

The vehicle is owned by Came Farms and is valued at $65,000.

50 hours of brush work and i bet he never cleaned any brush from the engine compartment. Sounds like operator error to me. Also I heard this happened to him another time recently, sounds maybe a bit like an insurance scam to me?
